Concentration of the Mind

Given that the brain consists of 13 billion cells, that the number of possible circuits in the brain is greater than the number of atoms in the universe, and that no human being - even the most brilliant - has used more than 10 percent of his mind in daily life, it follows that our minds have the potential to be trained much more easily than other parts of the body. Concentration of the mind is the key to this learning process.

Concentration of the mind is the first step towards mind control, without which we cannot achieve our goals. Concentration of the mind makes us masters of our fate and enables us to realize our long - held dreams. Dr. S J Van Pelt, former President of the British Society of Medical Hypnosis, states: "Genius is the result of the ability to suoperconcentrate the mind, and so make use of practically all the mind power available." He believes that any average person is a potential genius; anatomically there is no difference between the brain of the average person and the greatest genius. There is however, a vast difference in the way, we use our minds. The ability to concentrate is something we can develop and cultivate - something we can learn. By hypnosis the mind can simply learn how to concentrate and be conditioned to concentrated attention in all the walks of her/his life.

Memory Retrieval

The brain can be viewed as a biological computer that controls, prioritizes, and limits the use of all our other faculties. At the beginning of life, it starts to record every single piece of information that it encounters. Every experience, picture, sound, word, sensation, taste, and smell is recorded. Then, they act as our guiding force for almost everything we do. In our lifetime, we will store billions of bits of information. It has been estimated that the word - storage bank of the average person contains some 50,000 words. Some come to mind immediately, others must be searched for, but they are all there. When we make a conscious effort to remember, the unconscious mind continues the search on its own accord, even when the conscious mind has abandoned the effort. Sternberg, a scientist has found that an unconscious search continues at the rate of approximately thirty items per second even after the conscious mind has become occupied with other matters. Considering that hypnosis provides a means of researching the unconscious mind, it follows that hypnosis not only can make a person to recall forgotten memories, it can also strengthen memory retention.
